LIA DITTON COMPLETES HER OARSOME CHALLENGE
At 12:59 Thursday 18th March, Lia Ditton and Mick Birchall rowed Dream Maker across the finish line to take 9th place in the Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race (2009), their Oarsome Challenge completed.
After 72 days, 23 hours and 29 minutes of one of the most physically and mentally gruelling events, they where welcomed into English Harbour, Antigua, by an armada of dinghies, people clapping and cheering and waving and horns hooting. A moment they will fondly remember for the rest of their now richer lives.
Lia describes the experience, “A crowd was waiting. Champagne rained over me. I took a swig from the bottle handed to me and reached out to take my father’s hand and step on flat land. My world spun momentarily from the Champagne, so I just stood there taking it all in, grinning like a Cheshire cat. We had made it!”
