Job Vacancy – Landmine Clearance Manager
The HALO Trust conducts humanitarian mineclearance in Abkhazia, Angola, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Kosovo, Mozambique, Nagorno Karabakh, Somaliland and Sri Lanka. You must be responsible, adaptable, possess considerable self-drive and have experience of leading large expeditions. The brightest HALO recruits may well find themselves running a 700- personnel strong operation by the time they have spent two years working for us.
If you are aged between mid twenties to early thirties and want to work in challenging conditions, then you might like to consider working for The HALO Trust. Responsibilities include the training and leadership of staff who are required to conduct safe mineclearance and explosive ordnance disposal, reconnaissance and survey, liaison with local government and/or rebel forces and other aid agencies. Equally important are the less glamorous responsibilities of managing all the administrative and logistical requirements of your command.
Previous leadership experience in the Armed Forces will be to the applicant’s advantage, but is not a prerequisite. Selection and overseas training takes six months and cover mine and UXO recognition and clearance, 5 demolitions, detection equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance, HF and VHF radio communication and maintenance, basic accounting and report writing.
You will be expected to achieve a working level of the local language. Staff earn approximately GB£29,000 pa to start with, rising to GB£42,000 pa after two to three years once an individual has proved them self capable of running a national programme.
