On the morning of his 20th birthday, Rhys stood on the summit of Mount Everest and claimed a World Record as the youngest person to climb the highest mountain on each continent, known as the “Seven Summits Challenge”.

Within weeks of returning home from his 54 day climb of Everest, Rhys accepted the challenge of competing in a totally different adventure and successfully completed the 2006 Round Britain and Ireland yacht race.

In 2007, Rhys set himself what would be his toughest challenge yet – an expedition to an ultra remote part of East Greenland. With a small, self supported team of just three climbers, they set off to sail to Greenland, before making a 400 mile ski trek across the ice cap to climb the highest peaks in the Arctic Circle.

2008 saw Rhys build a lifesize paper boat and attempt to sail it down the mighty Missouri and Mississippi Rivers in the U.S, and 2009 Rhys started working as an expedition Guide, taking a team to climb Kilimanjaro in Africa. Despite the usual statistics, every team member reached the summit.
