BRISTOL EXPLORER, LIA DITTON, IN SIXTH PLACE IN WOODVALE ATLANTIC ROWING RACE
Lia Ditton & Mick Birchall have experienced their fair share of physical, mental and emotional challenges during their five weeks at sea in Dream Maker, their entry in the 2009 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race. Currently they are just a few places and 35 nautical miles ahead of Mel & Annie, in their boat Explore, fellow Bristol Explorers!

Tuesday 2nd February 2010. What a difference a day makes! This time yesterday I was reaching the end of my tether about being on the para anchor, although our spirits remained fairly highly it was unbelievably frustrating.

27th January 2010. ’Its been swell!’ Oh what a night! It’s been officially voted by all parties as the worst ever of the journey – and considering we were making progress in the right direction that’s a big negative.

26th January- Mel – I slept through the alarm twice last night – lovely for me as it means I must have been sleeping really deeply, which can only be a good thing, but v annoying for Annie who had to keep track of time on a watch with no light and shout at me when it was time for me to wake up! I’m putting it down to the fact that I’m so used to life on board now that my brain tunes out noises it knows aren’t important – or that’s my excuse anyway!

Ocean Rowing Events was set up 3 Years ago with the express mission to raise £1 million for charitable causes by conducting inspiring Ocean based expeditions involving people from all walks in life. We have nearly reached that target and have now set ourselves a more ambitious one. We wish to raise £5million for a panel of 20 chosen charities that is up to £250,000 each.

Happy as can be. I think that describes me perfectly this morning! Although saying that, I don’t think I’ve had a single miserable day the whole time we’ve been out here to tell the truth… There’s not really much to be miserable about and personally I spit in the eye of misery anyhow!
