History

Bristol and the West has been a home to Explorers for centuries and we aim to keep that spirit alive for years to come.

These are just a few past Bristol Explorers:

  • William Weston – first English merchant to lead an expedition to Canada in 15th century
  • Martin Pring – discovered northern parts of Victoria, USA
  • John Cabot – or ‘Giovanni Caboto’ was a Venetian explorer first to land at Newfoundland
  • Richard Amerike – owed the famous boat used by John Cabot, the Matthew
  • John Phillips – One of many pirates that called Bristol home.
  • Ernest Giles – Bristol born explorer who led major expeditions to Australia in mid 19th century
  • Richard Chancellor – was first man to enter and develop relations with Russia in 16th century

Today, the West continues to have a thriving community of experienced Explorers and Adventurers, backed by sponsors, television production companies, agents, charities and commercial suppliers. This community is growing and we are here to get you in contact with like-minded individuals.

So if you’re actively involved with exploration or adventure join today and lets work together.
